How Do I Prepare to Fast

How Do I Prepare to Fast?

Fasting is more than deciding what time we’re going to stop eating. Preparation begins with the heart. As we approach October 5–9, we want to enter this time intentionally, not simply hungry.

1. Decide what you’re making room for.

Fasting isn't only about what we're temporarily putting down. It's also about what we're intentionally turning our attention toward.

Jesus taught that fasting should be directed toward the Father, not performed for people to see (Matthew 6:16–18). So before Monday, ask yourself:

What distractions can I quiet so I can give more attention to prayer, Scripture, and the Holy Spirit?

2. Enter with expectation, not performance.

We aren't fasting to earn God's favor or convince Him to move. In Christ, we already belong to Him and have access to the Father.

Instead, we can approach this fast saying, “Holy Spirit, I want to be attentive to what You are saying and doing in me.”

Remember

Don't just prepare your meals. Prepare your heart.

Before Monday, take a few moments to pray:

“Father, show me what needs to become quieter so I can become more attentive to You.” 🙏🏾
