Why Do We Fast?
Why Do We Fast?
Fasting isn’t about trying to convince God to bless us or give us something. Through Christ, we already have access to the Father. Fasting is about intentionally turning our attention toward Him.
1. Fasting helps quiet distractions.
Jesus said, “When you fast…” (Matthew 6:16–18). Fasting creates intentional space to turn our attention away from competing appetites and toward prayer, Scripture, and God.
2. Fasting reminds us of our dependence on God.
Jesus said, “Man shall not live by bread alone…” (Matthew 4:4). Fasting reminds us that our ultimate source and sustenance is God.
Remember: We’re not fasting to change God. We’re allowing God to work in us.
As we prepare for October 5–9, ask yourself:
What am I making room for? 🙏🏾
